Dundee Discovery Card!
About the Dundee Discovery Card
As part of its E-government and ICT Strategy, Dundee City Council is leading a project aimed at making it easier for people to access services and facilities throughout the city and beyond.
To achieve this, the Dundee Discovery card was introduced in October 2002. The card is a state of the art, secure smartcard with a variety of uses throughout the city.
The projects primary objectives are to streamline existing council card schemes into one card and to simplify and to extend access to facilities and information.
Frequently asked questions
Q. What is the Dundee Discovery card?
A. It is a plastic card the size of a credit card but with a small microchip embedded in it. This microchip can be more or less powerful: depending on the services you wish to access.
Q. What can the Dundee Discovery card be used for?
A. The services can range from simple Leisure Club membership to the issuing of library material to payment for school meals or transport. With the addition of a photograph the card can become “proof of age card” for young people.
Q. What do I do if my circumstances change.
A. The Dundee Discovery card office on floor 2, Tayside House must be notified of any change of name, address or telephone number.
Q. What’s the point of it all?
A. Dundee City Council see the card as a very good example of how to embrace technology to make it even easier for the people of Dundee to access services and facilities.
Q. What practical benefits does it bring to the user?
A. A single card, can in theory, replace most of the pieces of plastic that the public can carry around in their wallets and purses.
